RECONCORDIA

Founded to promote unity among confessional Lutherans in the U.S.A.

The Reconcordia Initiative is an organization founded with the intention of promoting unity among the various confessional Lutheran bodies in the United States. Bodies such as the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS), Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS), and American Association of Lutheran Churches (AALC) share a common confessional heritage yet remain institutionally divided. We believe this division is contrary to Christ's wish for the Church, that they "may be one, as we are one," as well as the historic Christian understanding that we believe in one holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. We believe that through spreading awareness, activism, and prayer, we can obtain unity within the Lutheran Church, not only for our tradition, but as a greater testament to the Church catholic as a whole. We also believe that a more united confessional Lutheranism would be better positioned to resist the liberalization that has taken hold in certain corners of the faith.
